On to Italy!

After taking the train under the Alps we still had a bit of Switzerland to go through, however, and spent a night in the town of Visp - just short of the Italian border.

Apologies to the residents of Visp, but I'm afraid there isn’t much to say about that one - looks like a good jumping off place for ski trips to the Alps, but that’s about it.

.Driving south into Italy, we initially kept to the main highways (wahoo - ever done 160 KPH in a Ford station wagon??) but decided to get adventurous and get off the main drag for a while.

Anna on the ferry across Lago Maggiore

That lead us on some very twisty and turn-y two lane roads through small towns in northern Italy, which was great but a very slow way to make progress...

One good thing that came from this was a little side trip on a car ferry across Lago Maggiore, near Como.

After spending a morning on this path, we caught the Auto strada again and burned oru way east, ending up in the town of Breschia for the night.

Breschia - central square

Two duomos (churches)

We spent the evening and next morning in Breschia - and could have easily spent a few more days, but needed to move on - to Venice!

Had enough?  Heading home, or joining us?
